IsoHunt and a community of other pirates are now asking users to sign a petition to free Artem Vaulin, the creator and owner of KickAss Torrents. "We don't know how long it can last, but at least it's something." "It's not perfect but if users need to save and archive something it's time," the team told VentureBeat. The owners warn the community to not get too attached. According to a report at Venture Beat, the people behind torrent site IsoHunt are hosting a mirror of Kickass Torrents which holds the last year-and-a-half of files, giving downloaders just enough time to to grab files and backup what they're seeking.
None of this has stopped the online community who are supporters of the site, and less than 24 hours after the kat.cr's seizure, Kickass Torrents (KAT) is back online in a limited way, and if only for a short time.
The remaining domains were taken offline voluntarily after the KAT.cr domain name was seized.
The alleged Ukrainian man known online as "tirm", was detained in Poland after being charged with a four-count U.S. On July 20, 2016, the United States Department of Justice announced that it had seized the KAT.cr domain and had identified the possible owner. It's been a few days since Kickass Torrents was taken offline and left a gaping hole in the world of peer to peer file sharing via torrents.
